First Utility Warehouse business meeting

by Steve on August 1, 2010

I’m the first to admit that presentation meetings – and networking events of any kind – are not really my cup of tea! Despite an outwardly calm appearance I get nervous and a bit twitchy. I guess everyone else is in the same boat too -new people, new stuff, what to talk about etc etc..

So when I was asked to attend the Utility Warehouse presentation at Ramada Jarvis in Hull my first instinct was to to find a reason NOT to attend, short notice – another engagement, family stuff, and so on. So on the phone I hedged my bets and said I would try to get there - despite the short notice!

But when I got around to thinking it through – I came to this conclusion – not making the effort  to get to the first meeting I was invited to would be like the beginning of a negative process, that was suggesting to me that my original decision to join the company was the wrong one! The first step on the path of self doubt!

D o you see where I’m coming from?  That first excuse might be followed by others,  and eventually a negative thought cycle would be generated, ultimately leading me to doubt my original decision. What was the problem? I had already done my homework, was working with someone I knew and trusted, what was the issue? Probably just a touch of insecurity, a bit of wobbly self-esteem and a natural fear of the unknown – the only solution to fear is action!

So I decided that I would definitely attend -  even though it would take a little effort to sort out!

I’m glad I did – for a couple of reasons

First of all I was impressed by how ‘ordinary’ the real achievers on the company were – just straightforward folks who were receiving the benefit of their own hard work

Secondly I met some interesting distributors, and realised that everyone from apprentice welders to company directors were working together to move their business hopes forward.

Finally I actually learned something – I started to figure out how it works and why it works.

The meeting was certainly friendly and business like and I did’nt feel there was a threatening or  ‘hard sell’ atmosphere, what’s more it ended on time – always a bonus!

Next Step is to get my Online Training started:
I’ve had some issues with the company website but have hopefully got them sorted out now and will spend the weekend getting up to speed.

I have to!

I’ve committed to attending the Getting Started Training session on Monday, in Huddrsfield / Halifax!
